Bobbie Spurlock, LCSW, PMH-C opened in 2021 with the mission of providing perinatal specific services to birthing persons and their families. Bobbie offers individual therapy services as well as special events, classes, and group services.
For years we have heard talk of Postpartum depression. In recent years there has been a move to talk about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety disorders which recognizes that the birthing person and their partner, in the perinatal period (conception through one year postpartum), experience much more than depression. 1 in 7 birthing persons, and 1 in 10 partners experience a mood or anxiety disorder. These disorders include depression, anxiety, OCD, postpartum PTSD, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders often go untreated and undiagnosed, which leads to negative effects for the whole family. Birthing persons who do not receive the support that they need to heal are at higher risk for relapse on substances, as well as suicide and infanticide in extreme cases. Individual therapy, peer support, groups, and medication have been shown to be effective in treating these disorders.
